Georg Jensen Cobra Candlesticks

I have long been an admirer of Georg Jensen Jewellery and I am lucky enough to own a Georg Jensen bracelet (which will be show in a later post). When I am up in central London, I often pass by the Bond Street store and gaze at the lovely things in the window. Classic simple design which relies on its design and not a multitude of embellishments.

Georg Jensen was a Danish silversmith, he was known for his Art Nouveau pieces and later for his jewellery. He opened his shop in London in 1921. Today many designers contribute to the collection, but Georg Jensens ethos still remains, quality craftsmanship and timeless design.

I first saw these candlesticks in the flesh, so to speak, when I visited a friend for dinner. She had the small floor sized ones as a pair on her dining table which looked perfect in the setting of her large airy conservatory. I instantly recognised them as Georg Jensen and discovered another GJ fan. I spent much of the evening completely lost in admiring them bathed in flickering candle light.

The pair pictured are the small size, they come as a pair. They sit beautifully together, intertwined or back to back and due to the size are very versatile and a great gift.

Their simplicity is their beauty, as with most of Georg Jensens items. Simple white candles look elegant and modern, the Georg Jensen ones shown don’t drip so are worth investing in to prevent your lovely candlesticks getting wax on them.

They were designed for Georg Jensen by Constantin Wortmann who has since expanded the collection to include water jugs, bowls and lamps.
