The perfect remedy to cold blustery days and nights is comfort food. Lovely hot mug of tea and… toast. What more could you want?
For me hot buttered toast always springs to mind. Lovely melted butter on piping hot crusty toast. Is there anything more satisfying and comforting? Quick, easy and hits the spot.
I have to admit, I don’t eat a great deal of bread. We mainly have brown sliced in our house and on the rare occasion I fancy a slice of toast, I find that we have either run out of bread or the only butter we have left is the last scrapings around the butter dish.
This bread, however, is an exception. When I am in Waitrose, as that is the only place I have seen it on sale, I pick up a pack and also make sure we have plenty of really salty butter. I know all you unsalted butter lovers will be looking disapproving by now, but for me salty butter is king. I really like Lidl’s West Country Butter. Small pieces of sea salt in creamy West Country butter goes so well with this lovely toast.
This Pane Pugliese by Crosta and Mollica is the ultimate in toasting bread, made from Durum wheat and baked in Italy. I think it is best toast ever and my top tip is to toast it well to a dark golden colour, about a minute longer than your average slice of toast. The crust is lovely and crisp and the centre is firm and crispy with a good texture. I love it best with a nice rich salty butter and nothing else.
The only place I have seen it on sale is Waitrose HERE.
